Known as the M178, its 503hp output number isn't stunning just yet, but it's early days for this mill. Expect it to produce much more in the coming years.
This will likely be a very versatile engine - expect it in everything from the C63 to the GT to the G550
The whole thing weighs just 460 lbs dry, not bad for such a big lump. Much of that weight savings is possible by putting the turbo's plumbing right here between the V of the cylinders.
The engine has a low profile - good for low slung cars like the GT. This is due in large part to the dry sump oiling system.
Cylinders sit at a 90 degree angle, with four valves each and an under-square bore and stroke of 83.0 x 92.0 mm. Despite running 17.4 psi of boost pressure, the M178 sports a 10.5:1 compression ratio. Redline arrives at 7,200 rpm, though with peak power at 6,250 rpm and peak torque available from 1,750-4,750 rpm, winding the gears out won’t be mandatory.
