2020 C8 Corvette Coilover Suspension Installation Guide with Video

In this article and video we’re going to show you a step-by-step installation or coilover shocks on your C8 Corvette. It’s pretty straightforward, Chevrolet designed the car in a way that makes it easy to swap out these parts.

We’ll get started with this install in a moment. But first, let’s look at the stock ride height.

  • FRONT: 14.4 Inches 
  • REAR: 15.3 Inches

2020 C8 Corvette Coilover Suspension Installation Steps:

  • Tools you’ll need
    • 19, 21 and 24mm wrench
    • 1/2 inch Ratchet
    • 10, 13, 19, 21 mm sockets
    • Pry Bar
    • 6mm Allen
  1. Open the frunk and remove the outside plastics pulling straight up out of the clips
  2. If equipped with magride suspension, you’ll need to disconnect the connectors on the top of the strut towers
  3. Undo the (3) 13mm tophat nuts, the rearmost nut is a bit difficult to get to and will require a swivel bit or extension
  4. Remove front wheels
  5. Remove the 21mm nut and bolt for the lower mounting point
  6. Have a friend pry down on the lower control arm and remove the coilover
  7. The new KW coilovers are much smaller and can slide into place much easier without prying the lower control arm
  8. slide the lower the 21mm mounting bolt into place and tighten down
  9. Install the supplied 13mm nuts on the upper mounts and tighten down
  10. Connect the supplied resistor override module for Magride so your car doesn’t get angry and talk shit to you
  11. Re-install the frunk plastics starting with the center, then the sides
  12. Moving to the rear undo the mag ride connectors and (3) 13mm nuts for the upper mount of the strut
  13. Now remove the rear wheels
  14. Remove the end link from the sway bar with a 10mm and 19mm wrenches
  15. Remove the end link fully by removing the 19mm nut from the coilover lower mount
  16. Pop the brake lines out of the mounting bracket snd remove the brcket with a 10mm socket
  17. Remove the lower ball joint with a 6mm allen and 19mm ratcheting wrench
  18. The guys at KW fashioned up a strap to the lower control arm with a foot hold to use their body weight to pull the arm out of the way during removal and installation, but a pry bar can be used here as well.
  19. Remove the OEM coilover, some help holding the hub in place may be required
  20. Snake the new KW Coilover up into the mounting position
  21. Reinstall the ball joint into the drop knuckle using the OEM hardware
  22. Re-install the 10mm brake line bracket and press the brake lines back into place
  23. Re-install the endlink on the lower mounting point of the coilover then into the sway bar holding it with a 10mm on the outside and 19mm ratcheting wrench to tighten it up
  24. Install the 19mm nut on the lower strut mount and endlink and tighten down
  25. Install the supplied 13mm nuts on the tophat
  26. Install the supplied resistor module to the mag ride connector and ziptie it into place
  27. Re-install your wheels and make sure you get a quality alignment

New Ride Height After Install of Coilovers:

  • FRONT: 13.375 Inches (1.025″ lower)
  • REAR: 14.375 Inches (0.925″ lower)
