CR performance engineering is a Canadian based company run by automotive aftermarket veterans, and they specialize in forced induction vehicles. they’re best known for everything they do for EcoBoost engines, making them a very natural fit for what we’re doing here. Based on Stock Turbos
The stock turbos that come on your 3.5 liter EcoBoost are pretty decent turbos made by BorgWarner. They can handle up to 18psi boost and can be tuned a little bit over 400 horsepower. But past that, they start to peter out a little bit. Luckily they’re reliable!
CR Performance buys brand new BorgWarner OEM turbo units. They then bore out to a 42mm inducer and a 56mm exducer. They then make custom seven blade impeller and compressor wheels that help support that high horsepower, high boost situation. With a custom tune these turbos can handle over 500 wheel horsepower. We like the fact that these are made out of the stock OEM housings, because it’s the internals that matters to help get that performance. Once they’re installed, they’re going to look stock and they’re going to pass any visual inspection. WINK WINK.
Machine Balanced
Now it’s very important that everything be perfectly balanced and mated before it’s all put back together. Some shops are going to do manual balancing, which can be quite good, but the perfect way to do it is machine balancing. Despite being a small operation, CR Performance machine balances all of their internals in-house before everything goes back together. And that helps support that high boost high-performance application.
