Let’s get started.
All right, this is a really straightforward installation, and you can do this in your own driveway with a basic set of tools. I’m going to walk you through what we’re going to be doing real quick. I’m going to put the front of the car up in the air, put it on jack stands for safety. We’re going to take off the front wheel first, and then we’re going to disconnect the lower shock mount and the bolts from the nuts from the top hat, slide the shock out of there, but the new one in, and bolt it all up. We don’t even have to disconnect the sway bar end link. In the rear, it’s basically the same thing, we’ll jack the car up in the air, take the wheel off, disconnect the lower and upper mounts, put the new shock in, and tighten it all back up.
Tools you’ll need for this job include:
- 12, 14, and 19mm Sockets
- Ratchet
- Panel Puller
- 19mm Combo Wrench
- Mallet
Installing the Front Coilovers
- Let’s start by jacking up the front of the car and put it on jack stands.
- Remove your front wheels.
- Remove the ABS line and brake line from the coilover using the 12mm socket.
- Remove the two mounting bolts using a 19mm socket and a 19mm wrench. You may need to tap the bolt out of the drop knuckle, starting with the upper bolt.
- Remove the (3) 12mm nuts on the upper mount of the OEM coilover and remove the coilover.
- Make sure to put your OEM coilover in a safe place.
- Install a BC Racing coilover, making sure the directional sticker is at the front of the top hat.
- Install the upper mounting point using the supplied (3) 12mm mounting nuts.
- Reuse the OEM lower mounting hardware to mount the coilover to the drop knuckle and tighten it down.
- Remount the ABS line and brake line to the coilover using the OEM hardware.
- Now you can reinstall your front wheels.
We recommend adjusting the damping to the center of the adjustments at 15 clicks as a good starting point. Now let’s do the rear.
Installing the Rear Coilovers
- Jack up the rear of the car and remove your wheels.
- Undo the (12) pub clips holding down the interior liner of the trunk, and then remove the trunk liner.
- Undo the 14mm nut for the end link on the control arm followed by the 19mm lower mounting bolt for the coilover and the drop knuckle.
- Tap out all (3) bolts from the lower control arm
- Remove the (2) 14mm bolts for the upper mount of the coilover.
- Remove your old coilover and install the new coilover into the upper mounts and have a friend tighten up the supplied 14mm nuts.
- Jack the lower control arm up to the coilover and drop knuckle, and reinstall the OEM hardware.
- Tighten down the (2) 14mm nuts for the upper mounting point and adjust the damping to 15 clicks to match the front.
- Go ahead and reinstall your wheels.
- Reinstall the (3) interior pieces of the trunk liner reusing the (12) OEM clips.
- Go ahead and lower the car down, you’re ready to enjoy your new coilovers.
All right, so after we got our BC Racing Coilovers fully installed, the car sits two inches lower than it was before we started and it looks great. We still have ride height control so we might be changing the ride height of the car later on. We have made a video on how to adjust the ride height on these BC Racing coilovers. We set all of our clickers, our dampers, to 15 clicks right in the middle. So Zach can get out there, drive the car around, see how it feels, and then he can adjust it firmer or softer from there. All right, so this kit will set you back around $1000, and we have them for sale on Motoroso.com. You can also shop over a million other top name-brand products on the website. We have included some helpful videos on how to use the BC Racing coilovers below.
