Mishimoto Oil Catch Can for the 2021+ Ford Bronco

In this article, we’re going to give you a close-up look at the brand new Mishimoto Oil Catch Can for the new Ford Bronco and a quick how-to installation guide. In our opinion, this is one of the least expensive and easiest-to-install modifications that is going to protect the life and performance of your engine no matter how you’re using your Bronco. Whether you’re just cruising around or you’re going to drive it hard, tune it or put performance modifications on it you should probably install one of these because the Bronco is a turbocharged engine — both the 2.3L and 2.7L are boosted. Boosted engines create more pressure which pushes the engine harder leading to something called blow-by. 

What is Blow By?

Blow-by is when the combustion pressure in the engine seeps past the piston rings and into the crankcase. This contaminates the oil making the oil not perform as well reducing the engine life, and it can push oil out of that breather valve into the whole intake system. That means you can get a thin coating of oil on your intercooler which makes it perform worse and you can get oil all into the turbo and into the valves over time and which can cause carbon buildup which reduces the engine performance and life. This is only a $200 part and it’s going to help protect the engine against that blow-by.

The Kit from Mishimoto

The kit itself is simple, it includes a mounting bracket, the catch can itself, and all the connectors and hoses you need to connect it to the PCV hose on the engine. Now the PCV stands for positive crankcase ventilation, and like we just said, the oil is coming out of that crankcase vent line and instead of going right into the engine it passes through this oil catch can which has a 50-micron centered bronze filter that filters all of the oil out of the air which drips down and collects in the bottom of the can. The clean air then flows out keeping your engine healthy and clean. You can simply periodically empty this catch can by threading it out and you can empty it out, clean it and it will be good for a lifetime of use, and of course, Mishimoto offers a lifetime warranty. 

It’s easy for them to offer that lifetime warranty because the bracket and the catch can themselves are made from super high-quality steel with a powder-coated finish for durability. The unit is also mounted away from the vibration of the engine so it’s not under a lot of stress.
