Things to Consider

When you are shopping for bumpers, there is a lot to consider because there are a lot of different features and options for how you configure these bumpers. First of all, you want to run a winch or not. Would you like a Prerunner bar, a big stinger bar, or no bar at all? Do you want D-Ring mounts? Are you planning on running LED lighting? Is it going to retain the OEM skid plate or do they offer an aftermarket skid plate that compliments the bumper? How wide do you want it? Do want the mid-width, fender-width, or do you want it to go beyond and line up with the wide fenders. Now does it flow enough air through to the intercooler which is really important on these turbo applications for the Bronco?

In the rear, will it clear the tow hitch receiver or will it work with the spare tire carrier you have chosen to run that will carry a big enough tire that you’re on? And will it work with the electronics package you have chosen? That means things like the parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, and the new Bronco 360 camera system.

We’re going to try and list off as many of these features for every one of these bumpers as we can, but in many cases, these were actually early prototypes of the final details of the product that may be still be getting worked out. By the time you read this article, whether it’s a month or a year, there will definitely be more information, so again, check out the links throughout the article or hit us up on LiveChat, or our toll-free line.

Inexpensive Ways to Add Protection

Before we talk about full bumper replacements, some of you might just want to protect the stock bumper or add some functionality. For that, Aries makes their full front bull bar which is $379 and an easy installation. Rough Country is making their nudge bar for only  $279 and includes a spot to mount some LED lights. Rough Country is also making a winch mount for $309. These are inexpensive ways to protect your front bumper and add a little bit of functionality, but now, let’s talk about full bumper replacements.

BAJA STYLE FRONT BUMPER

The SVC If you like a really aggressive, minimalist, low-profile, tubular, Baja style look, SVC Offroad has a winch-compatible and non-winch-compatible version of their Baja style bumper. This bumper is extremely low-profile and minimalist, and it doesn’t even appear to support the parking sensors. You can expect this to be priced around $1,500 without a winch mount and $1,900 for the winch-compatible version. We didn’t see a matching rear bumper for this.

Havoc Offroad

METAL MASHER

Havoc Offroad has introduced their Metal Master front bumper. This is a tubular, Baja-style, very low profile, high ground clearance bumper, and it has these nice-looking vented inserts. This bumper is not winch-compatible, but it will support a 20-inch light bar for helping with visibility on the trail. One thing it was definitely unique about this Metal Masher bumper is that they offer D-ring mount locations with three different positions depending on how you want that D-ring to hang. There is no pricing available for this one just yet.

STEEL BENDER

Havoc Offroad also introduced their Steel Bender bumper which is a more traditional style boxed-off looking bumper and it has a Prerunner bar, but it’s a pretty low profile PreRunner bar so it doesn’t interfere too much with the cameras and the sensors. This bumper has that same three-position D-ring mounting location which looks pretty cool, and it also features a spot for a 20-inch LED light bar. Havoc Offroad is making a matching rear Steel Bender bumper as well with a similar design to the front. It’s got D-ring mount locations and a spot for some reverse lights.

Icon Vehicle Dynamics

Better known for their suspension products, Icon Vehicle Dynamics has introduced their front and rear bumpers for the new Bronco. It is definitely a unique-looking bumper and we don’t know what to say about it other than it looks different from everything else that is out there. They did tell us that this is probably not the final design so there may be a lot of changes but currently, it will house a winch, has spots for 3-inch Cube lights on the front bumper, and the rear bumper has cutouts for their proprietary shaped rear reverse lights. Check this one out in the future, there could be a lot of developments here from Icon. They make amazing suspension products, so we would not be surprised if these bumpers turn out to be pretty legit.

AFN 4X4

Another great product came from AFN. This is a very nice-looking bumper with its riveted style trim plates around the LED light mounting points, and it does have a hidden winch mount. This bumper is heavy-duty — the skid plate looks like it’s almost ⅓-inch thick steel. Both the front and rear bumpers are finished with a black powder coating for extra protection. This bumper is going to set you back around $2,000.

They also make a matching rear bumper for $1,200. The rear bumper is going to include two D-ring mounts and features an integrated step for easier access to the top of your Bronco.

CrawlTek

CrawlTek has introduced a new front bumper that is very low profile but still integrates a winch. The winch mounts below the bumper very low down without sacrificing too much ground clearance. This thing is so low profile it’s going to have absolutely no interference whatsoever with any of the cameras, sensors, or the adaptive cruise control.

They also produced a matching rear bumper that also has a winch mount — this was the only Bronco that we saw at SEMA that had front and rear winches and we think that’s really awesome. And this rear bumper still maintains that very low profile design, so it’s not going to mess with any of the sensors. This combination of bumpers is going to give you a great angle of attack out of the trail. We don’t have any pricing available for these products yet, but we’re going to be keeping a real close eye on these as time goes on.

Expedition One

Expedition One’s front bumper can also include their optional skid plate for an additional $130. The bumper is configurable with options like coat finish, hoop guard types, and skid plate options with a price that ranges from $1,500 to $2,300 depending on how you configure the bumper.

REAR BUMPER

Matching the styling of their front bumper, Expedition One has also designed a rear bumper with loads of functionality. Just like the front bumper, this bumper is constructed of 3/16” steel with a black powder coating for durability and maintains the functionality of OEM parking sensors. Not only does this bumper have two D-ring mounts which have been standard for many of the other options and LED lighting which has appeared in a few rear bumpers, but this rear bumper also features a swing-away rear tire carrier that is brilliantly engineered. The tire carrier can fit a massive 40” tire and is included with the rear bumper. The swing-away arm can also, instead of a spare, carry additional accessories for complete versatility for 4×4 adventures.

Hauk Offroad

If you’re looking for a really unique design, check out the bumper from Hawk. This thing reminds us of an armored vehicle — feels very much like it belongs in the military. It also has all the features you would be looking for. It’s got a winch mount, and places for LED lights and D-rings. The bumper also has a Prerunner bar for added protection in the front.

The rear bumper of course matches and they built in a spare tire carrier that can support up to a 40” tire similar in design to the Expedition One’s tire carrier. It’s got a big box metal construction and has the same round light mounts as the front.

Bodyguard

BASE AND BAJA FRONT BUMPER

Another very unique product comes from Bodyguard. They’ve got this really angular aggressive look with vents and exposed silver studs to make the whole thing look different from just about anything else that we saw. With the Baja style bumper, there is an additional Pre-Runner style bar that has a mount option for a single row 20” LED light bar for enhanced nighttime visibility. This winch does accommodate a winch, an upper LED light bar that is integrated into the Prerunner bar (if you have it), and has two, corner LED Pods on each side of the bumper. This bumper is going to set you back around $2,300 and you can get the matching rear bumper for around $1,400. Both the front and rear bumper maintains the OEM parking sensors.

All of Bodyguard’s bumpers are designed and manufactured in the USA.

Baja Forged

Several builds at SEMA featured the new bumper from Baja Forged. As the name suggests, it is a very Baja-styled bumper, and they just pull off making these bumpers look really crisp and clean. The lines that they follow and the nice steel plates that they insert into the bumper give it a really nice refined look, more so than some of the other minimalistic-looking Baja-styled bumper. The front bumper is going to accommodate a winch and has D-ring mounts like many of the other bumpers we have mentioned. The front bumper has a beautiful skid plate, and a rear bumper to match. Both the front and rear do have locations to mount LED Light cubes, so you can add those for extra off-road utility.

MaxliderBros

FRONT BUMPER

The Maxlider Front Modular Bumper is an interesting choice for a front bumper as it shares a similar profile to the Addictive Desert Designs Stealth Fighter Front Bumper and is actually built by Addictive Desert Designs as well. This bumper is constructed of powder-coated steel to handle the conditions of offroad adventures. An under-bumper aluminum skid plate comes standard with the bumper, and there is an option to incorporate a full-sized grill guard for even more protection. It is also winched compatible and features a bumper cover plate for those who do not plan on running a winch to maintain a clean bumper surface. For lighting, there are mounts for two LED cube lights on each side of the bumper. Although this bumper will interfere with the adaptive cruise control sensor, the bumper includes a relocation bracket to maintain all functionality. Like its ADD counterpart, it does maintain all parking sensors as well.

Fun-Haver

FRONT BUMPER

The Fun-Haver series of bumpers is a quite unique offering for the Bronco. This front bumper is a modular styled bumper designed for high clearance giving your Bronco a better approach angle. With the modular design, you can add an optional winch and lighting for customizing your setup to match your needs. For lighting, there are spaces on either side of the bumper for single LED cube light.
