Galpin Drag Racing
Galpin Motors has a long and proud tradition of supporting National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) events, race cars and drivers. The NHRA officially began in 1951, after post-war hot-rodders were racing their hopped-up cars at Bonneville, known as the “Southern California Timing Association.” Hot Rod Magazine editor Wally Parks formed the NHRA to establish safety and performance standards for hot-rodders, with the first official NHRA race held in April 1953 at the L.A. County Fairgrounds. Interest in drag racing quickly grew in Los Angeles, and by 1955, Lion’s Drag Strip in Wilmington and the San Fernando (“the Pond”) Raceway were built. Galpin Ford didn’t miss a beat, and – starting in the ‘60s -- sponsored several drag racing drivers and teams.
