The first 4-time champion ever, Danny Popp wins the 2016 Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational, in his Raft Motorsports C5 Corvette Z06 on Forgeline GA3R wheels! We’re always talking about how Forgeline’s light weight, excellent fatigue strength, and high deflection stiffness contribute to racing victories; well today, we witnessed something new. During one of the road course sessions, Danny’s ABS system failed, caused a rear brake lockup at 140mph, and resulted in a spin off-track, deep into the gravel trap. Without a tow hook, the safety crews struggled to get the car free. They eventually just wrapped the straps around the spokes of his GA3R wheels, yanked the car free, and allowed him to get back on track to very narrowly earn the win over second place finisher Ken Thwaits, in the Showtime Motorsports Mitsubishi EVO!
